GABON LOWERS ITS GROWTH FORECAST. LE GABON REVOIT SES PRÉVISIONS DE CROISSANCE À LA BAISSE

English version

In December 2014, while the price of a barrel of oil was declining and that the rating agency Fitch had lowered its assessment of the economic health of Gabon, Regis Immongault, the Gabonese Minister of Economy, stated that: "Gabon is prepared to sustain the shock of oil prices without major impact. According to our simulations, the growth of the economy will remain strong next year, despite a sustained fall in oil prices; the forecast growth of Gabon will be 5.7%. Even at 65 dollars a barrel, growth would remain strong, at 5%."

But today the government to which Régis Immongault belongs, has cut its growth estimate of Gabon to 4.8%; that is to say well below Regis Immongault’s forecast. What does he say now? Economics is a science; and in science only facts are relevant!
