NO MR. JEAN EYEGHE-NDONG, YOU SHOULDN’T HAVE! NON MONSIEUR JEAN EYEGHE-NDONG, VOUS N’AURIEZ PAS DU!

English version

"In politics, perception is reality" once wrote a political scientist of the American School in a pamphlet advising politicians and those aspiring to be so, to always ensure that their actions reflected their political positions, because in the long run, in the eyes of the people, politicians quickly become what they do and not what they say!

Jean Eyeghe-Ndong might need this advice, because the news coming from the Second District of Libreville, are not good. They are even very worrying and likely to tarnish the political credit accumulated by Jean Eyeghe-Ndong since 2009. Indeed, Alexis Bengone, son of Jean Eyeghe-Ndong, has been propelled as Mayor of the borough, following the victory in this district of the list led by the father. There is no other word to describe this retrograde act, we will use the word that is appropriate: nepotism; and for having opposed the hereditary succession in Gabon, Jean Eyeghe-Ndong cannot afford to practice what he himself condemned the Bongos of doing. No, this is unacceptable and frankly speaking, this is suicidal for him and his son.

By such an act, Jean Eyeghe-Ndong in his capacity as popular political leader, gives the impression to mock his cause and what has made him so popular. He gives the impression of a distressing hypocrisy and to act reflexively for family preservation and not to promote a Republican Gabon. However, there is no question here about challenging the personal, intellectual or moral qualities of Alexis Bengone. It is merely about indicating that by making his son Mayor of the Second District, Jean Eyeghe-Ndong has become politically compromised because he is doing as the Bongos and Mborantsuos in his political environment, and this does not bode anything good for the future of his leadership.

Dear readers, you know the affection that this blog has always had for Jean Eyeghe-Ndong and it would be a tragedy if this man who gave us evidence of such a great potential, ended as the other wrecks of Gabonese politics, roaming the corridors of the Bongos looking for a crumb to nibble. This is why in friendship and respect, we come here to ask him to reconsider the position of Mayor offered to his son and the offer it to a recipient who does not belong to his bloodline, his tribe, or his in-laws. It is Jean Eyeghe-Ndong who would come out ahead because there are future battles to fight and these do not need to be compromised because of a narrow and parochial vision based on "me" and not "we." Jean Eyeghe-Ndong must wake up before it's midnight; he can still rectify the situation!
